The 2017 CrossFit Open

2017 will bring a lot of new changes, new faces and a lot of new challenges so it’s only fitting that we start the new year off with the CrossFit Open! This year we are shaking things up a bit and bringing the fun in house!! It’s going to be fun, challenging, frustrating and exciting all at the same time! Weather you have been with CrossFit 30518 for a month or 4 years this is for you!!!

What is the CrossFit Open?

Five workouts over five weeks… starting February 23rd a new workout will be announced every Thursday night at 8pm. Dave Castro will announce the workout, demonstrate the movement standards and then a couple of elite CrossFit Games athletes will go head to head in the workout. What is the CF30518 Open Throwdown?

We piggy back the CrossFit Open and have our own internal competition based on the same workouts. This will give you a chance to have some fun competing without having to register for the Open. To ensure that this fun is inclusive to everyone we will have 3 divisions: beginner, scaled and RX.

How does it work?

We will have 3 teams consisting beginner, scaled and RX athletes. Each team will have a captain and a “party” captain. We will be awarding points to teams each week based on participation, spirit, grit, determination, etc. We will have extra ways to earn more points for your team throughout the week too. The teams will be competing against each other so let’s make this as fun as possible!

Entering the CF30518 Throwdown:
$25 gets you the following:

  • A CF30518 open Throwdown t-shirt/tank
  • Winning team picture displayed in the gym
  • A chance to podium in your gender division
  • A chance to be named CrossFitter of the Open
  • Your best chance to PR’ing your workouts! Everyone is cheering for you!
  • Camaraderie like you’ve never experienced before!!!
  • And we’ll have a potluck cookout at the end of the open. Date TBD

Once everyone is registered, we’ll let you know what team you’re on.

Performing the Wods:

Wod will be performed on Saturdays starting at 9:30am. We will run through an explanation of the wod and all movement standards. We’ll go in several different in heats so that everyone can be judged. Can’t make it on a Saturday? No worries let us know and we will make arrangements for you to do the wod on Friday or Monday. Wods must be completed by Monday at 7:30pm.

Please let us know if you would like to participate in our Throwdown by Feb 8 so we can get the teams finalized and shirts ordered. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

We will be collecting food, toys and clothes to help benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Atlanta. Please refer to the wish list for suggestions. We will collect items until December 2, 2016
